Running for Josie
My name is Seamus Hennessy and I am a fellow classmate of you all from Roscrea – I attended the school from 2002-08. I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing to you to outline a campaign of mine, that I hope you might be willing to support, called RunningforJosie which involves me running the Antarctic Ice Marathon on December 13th 2018 in an attempt to raise €200,000 for two Irish suicide awareness charities – Pieta House and Living Links Tipperary. Both of these charities provide life-saving services for people across Ireland and both are heavily involved in my local community in Tipperary with Pieta House having a centre in Roscrea while Living Links is based in Nenagh.
The background to the campaign is that I lost my mother Josie to suicide when I was 11 years old back in 2000. You can read an interview from the Irish Independent on Monday last, November 26th here which provides a lot more of the background story.
To date, the campaign has raised over €167,000 and I have visited more than 15 primary and secondary schools and companies across Ireland to share my story with another 10 or so visits scheduled up to the end of the 2019 school year including a visit back to our alma mater where the current Transition Year students are fundraising to support the campaign.
If you would like to donate, you can do so at the RunningforJosie GoFundMe page here.
Social media:
Finally, you can learn more / follow the campaign’s social media channels using the links below and I would be extremely grateful for any support you could provide to help share the campaign and raise awareness of what I am hoping to achieve through social media and by word of mouth.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read to here.
Beir bua agus beannacht,
Seamus
