Philip Guiney (CCR 1959-1964) RIP

Updated

Some of us attended a very moving Mass in memory of the late Philip Guiney (House Captain 1963-’64) in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount celebrated by Fr. Derek Harris (CCR 1950-’55) this morning. By the wonders of modern technology, Philip’s wife Lesley was able to watch this via the parish’s webcam. Noteworthy were the tribute Fr. Harris made to the dedication of so many monks and lay teachers down through the years, the eloquent words of Ronnie Owens about Philip  after the Mass, and the singing of the Salve Regina at the end. Just like we did every night, back in the day!

Thanks to Jim McMahon a mass to celebrate the life of Philip and for us to remember him has been organised.

We are grateful to Fr Derek Harris, who is a retired Colomban missionary (Korea and California) and also a past pupil of CCR, for agreeing to celebrate the mass in memory of Philip and those of our group who over the years have passed away.

We also hope to have a choir who will travel to Dublin to add to the solemnity of the occasion.

The mass will be on the 31st January in the church of St Mary’s Star of the Sea, Sandymount, Dublin 4, at 11.30 am.

We don’t have a list of our fellow past pupils who have passed away and it would be great if you could update us on this so that we can mention them during the mass.

We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting up on 31st January.
